Definition
Phone outreach is the practice of calling prospects by phone as part of a structured sales process, often coordinated with email and LinkedIn touchpoints to maximize the chances of making contact and starting a conversation.
In Depth
Despite what some people claim, the phone is not dead in sales. For many industries, especially in traditional and regional business sectors, a phone call is still the most effective way to reach a decision-maker and start a real conversation. The challenge is making those calls count. Cold-calling from a random list with no context produces terrible results. But calling a prospect who just filed a building permit, or whose competitor just got a bad review, or who just posted a job that signals they need your services, changes the entire dynamic. The call feels relevant instead of random. Phone outreach is most effective when it is part of a multi-channel approach that includes email and LinkedIn, and when it is triggered by a real buying signal that gives the salesperson something meaningful to lead with. Automation handles the research and timing so your reps can focus on the conversation.
